Monarch Butterfly Migration Paths

Monarch butterflies seek warm weather in winter months. Most of the monarchs east of the Rockies migrate to Mexico, while the monarchs west of the Rockies overwinter along the west coast.

For a detailed map of the migration pattern and other monarch facts go to the Monarch Watch web page at www.monarchwatch.org. MonarchWatch is an educational outreach program based at the University of Kansas that engages citizen scientists in large-scale research projects and provides a wealth of information on the biology and conservation of monarch butterflies.
